Mobs Spawning Inside Walls

There have been a few times that I have been mining, when all of the sudden I hear the sound of damage being dealt to an enemy and see a health bar appear inside of a wall. Then out pops a bat, once the block I was mining has been broken.

Seems to be a bug allowing mobs to spawn inside dirt mountains.
